PC 290.5 - How To Terminate Your PC 290 Registration Requirement
Being required to register as a sex offender in California can have a large negative impact on your life. Fortunately, California laws changed in 2021 with the passage of SB 384 and the entire PC 290 registration system switched over to a three tiered system. Each tier is based on the severity of the original crime, and if you have registered successfully for the require timeframe prescribed by you tier designation, we can then petition the court to have your registration requirement terminated. Once successful you will never have to register under PC 290 again. Imagine the relief you will feel when you no longer have to go down to the police department on your birthday to register. - 1TIER ONE - This is the lowest tier and only requires registration for 10 years. Once you have successfully registered for 10 years, we can then petition the court to terminate your registration requirement. (Example Crimes: PC 243.3 as misdemeanor, PC 266, PC 286, PC 311.1 if a misdemeanor, PC 314, PC 647.6)
- 2TIER TWO - This is the middle tier and requires you to register for 20 years. Once you have successfully registered for 20 years, we can then petition the court to terminate your registration requirement. (Example Crimes: PC 285, PC 288 if older than 14, PC 287, PC 288.3, PC 647.6 if more than once time)
- 3TIER THREE - This is the most serious tier and requires lifetime registration. Only the most serious sex crimes fall under tier three. (Example Crimes: PC 207, PC 209, PC 220, PC 261, PC 243.3 as a felony, PC 288 if younger than 14)
